Two hundred years ago, in order to improve people’s quality of life and health, the British invented towels, which became an indispensable necessity in people’s lives around the world. But now, this “helper” who originally carried the mission of health has become a “bacterial bomb” that endangers health. Recently, the latest survey conducted by the China home textile industry association in Beijing, Shanghai and other large and medium-sized cities shows that the actual amount of towels used by the Chinese people is 1-2 per person per year, while in medium-sized developed countries, more than 10 towels are used per person per year, and the amount of towels used in developed countries such as Japan, Europe and the United States is even higher. Yang Zhaohua, President of China Home Textile Industry Association, pointed out that this result is inseparable from the wrong consciousness and habit of Chinese people in using towels.
The thrift concept of “not breaking or changing”. Diligence and thrift are the traditional virtues of the Chinese people, especially the middle-aged and old people, who are willing to throw anything away until it is damaged. But this good habit is definitely a “fatal blow” to towels that are used frequently. “People usually put towels in the bathroom, and towels made of pure cotton have excellent hygroscopic and water storage properties, which provide a ‘hotbed’ for the growth of bacteria. In addition, the dust in the air, skin oil and external bacteria will make towels dirtier and dirtier.” Yang Donghui, vice president of China Textile Industry Association, told the life times that among these bacteria, the most terrible ones are pathogenic bacteria such as E. coli and anaerobic bacteria. They are not only the culprits of diarrhea, otitis media, oral infection and other diseases, but also the behind the scenes people who make your skin grow spots and acne. “For this reason, we have always advocated that everyone change towels every 2-3 months, but few people have actually done so.” Yang Donghui stressed.
A towel has many uses. In many families, a towel is used to wash face, hands, bath, hair and even private parts. In this way, bacteria from hands, faces, hair and towels will cover the whole body. If the bacteria enter sensitive parts such as mouth, nose and eyes, they may also cause discomfort, especially children and people with allergic constitution, who are more likely to be attacked. Therefore, Yang Zhaohua reminds that towels must be divided according to their uses. Men should have at least three towels. Face, foot and bath towels should be used separately. Women should prepare at least four towels. On the basis of face, foot and bath, add a towel to wash their private parts.
The towel should be wet. “The Chinese people’s habit of using towels is to wet them. Washing their faces with wet towels is actually equivalent to using bacteria to protect skin.” Yang Donghui told reporters that pathogenic bacteria such as E. coli, anaerobic bacteria and even HIV can survive in wet towels for more than two days. “We should learn more from the Japanese in this respect. The Japanese never use wet towels for the second time. Once the towels are wet, they will be washed and dried immediately.” What is more worth mentioning is that the Japanese are accustomed to using small square towels. Each person will prepare more than a dozen for washing his face and hands. Once a towel is used, it will be changed every three days. Clean the dirty towels with soap and dry them in a sunny place.
In addition, it is also very important to choose a suitable towel. In the newly published “consumer guide to household textiles”, experts gave some methods: 1. Towels should be made of soft, comfortable and water absorbent pure cotton; 2. Purchase by population. Children should choose plain small square scarves; People with delicate skin or allergic skin are advised to choose towels with low Terry and low density; Male metabolism is fast, which is more suitable for thick towels with large surface friction. 3. High quality towels feel soft, fluffy and elastic, with even loops, neat seams and no peculiar smell. Inferior towels are on the contrary. “Washing your face with inferior towels is equivalent to using industrial waste water for skin care.” Yang Donghui emphasized.
In use, you should also pay attention to the fact that the towels you just bought should be cleaned first and then used again. Develop the habit of cleaning every day. Once the towels are yellow, hard and sticky, they should be replaced in time.
