In the office, I don’t do any physical work, but I feel weak when I sit down from morning to night, and even have headache and insomnia. You know what? This is probably caused by overuse of eyes.
Traditional Chinese medicine believes that “fatigue enters from the eyes”, that is, the eyes will cause fatigue and discomfort throughout the body. Yang Wei, chief physician of internal medicine of traditional Chinese medicine at Beijing Tongren Hospital, even pointed out that the eyes are the source of systemic fatigue.
As long as they have pain, swelling, dryness, blurred vision and other problems, it is easy to lead to headache, inattention, emotional irritability, sluggish reaction, fatigue, insomnia, nausea, vomiting and a series of fatigue symptoms. The main reason is that eye fatigue will produce “fatigue toxin”, which will attack the whole body and make the whole body feel “tired”.
Gao Jiansheng, chief ophthalmologist of the eye hospital of the Chinese Academy of traditional Chinese medicine, added that in addition to causing general discomfort, visual fatigue is more common to cause local discomfort, including discomfort or pain around the eyeball and orbit, acid swelling in the middle of the eyebrow, fear of light, tears, and double vision. However, symptoms such as general discomfort often occur in the elderly, weak, weak and sub-healthy people.
Gao Jiansheng also explained the relationship between the eyes and various parts of the body from the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine. “According to traditional Chinese medicine, the essence of the five Zang Fu organs is injected into the eyes, and the Qi and blood of the twelve meridians are concentrated in the eyes. Liver and kidney deficiency, spleen and stomach weakness, Qi and blood stagnation, and mental strain are all involved in the eyes.”
In other words, the essence of the five Zang Fu organs will rise to the eyes, and the eyes are connected with the meridians of the body. If there are diseases in various organs of the body, they can be reflected in the eyes. On the contrary, if the eyes are too tired, the viscera will also be involved.
Therefore, Yang Wei pointed out, “the eyes, as the source most vulnerable to fatigue, will have an early warning effect on the appearance of systemic fatigue symptoms. To solve systemic fatigue, we should start with the eyes.”
In this regard, the two experts gave the following suggestions. First of all, I usually use the computer, watch TV and read books. I have to rest for 10 minutes every hour, and blink and turn my eyes at the same time. Gao Jiansheng also suggested that computer users should slightly raise their seats, lower their computers, and keep their eyes at an angle of about 5 degrees downward from the monitor. “This can make their eyes smaller, maintain eye moisture, and prevent dryness.”
Secondly, apply towels to your eyes in the morning and evening, cool towels in the morning, hot towels in the evening, or smoke your eyes with chrysanthemum tea to keep your eyes moist, but be careful not to use eye drops at will. Third, eat light, eat more fresh vegetables and fruits such as carrots and dried fruits such as walnuts and sesame seeds.
Finally, experts suggest that you should often use your index finger and thumb to massage Jingming point, zanzhu point and temple, which can alleviate visual fatigue. The Jingming point is located at the inner side of the eye, slightly above the inner corner of the eye, the zanzhu point is located at the inner edge of the eyebrow, and the temple is in the bun, where food moves.
