In cold winter, electric blankets are a must-have for many families. However, accidents such as scalds and fires occur frequently every winter due to unsafe use of electric blankets. Recently, a microblog that “the electric blanket has been used for 6 years at most, and most people don’t know about it” attracted many people’s attention. Obviously, consumers have many misunderstandings when using electric blankets. Chen Gang, Deputy Secretary General of China Household Appliances Association, reminded consumers that electric blankets are “personal” appliances, and they should pay special attention to the following points when using them.
It can only be used for 6 years at most. On December 1, 2008, the state implemented the special requirements for electric blankets, electric heating pads and similar flexible heating appliances, which stipulates that the safe service life of electric blankets is 6 years from the production date. Chen Gang told the life times: “the aging and cracking of the power cord inside the electric blanket can’t be seen outside, so whether it’s used or not, it must be replaced six years after it is bought.” Otherwise, once the power cord is aged and cracked, people will be electrically injured and burned in light cases, and even fire in serious cases.
Check carefully before use. Before using the electric blanket for the first time, carefully check the electric blanket. If the surface, power cord, temperature controller and plug are damaged or loose, the carpet surface is burnt black, and the electric blanket is not hot or only locally heated after being powered on, it means that the electric blanket may be faulty and should be stopped immediately.
Be sure to smooth it when you use it. The electric blanket should be laid flat on the bed and not folded to avoid local overheating. In particular, the linear electric blanket is best laid flat on a hard bed, not on a soft bed such as a simmons bed, otherwise the hot wire is easy to deform or break, causing electric shock and fire. When it is stored, it cannot be curled or pressed under other heavy objects, and it can be gently stacked in a dry and ventilated place.
Lay a thin mattress on it. The electric blanket should not be in direct contact with the skin. It is not only more comfortable to lay a layer of towels, sheets or thin mattresses on the electric blanket, but also avoid scalding. However, it cannot be used under the thick mattress to prevent burning of components and fire. Do not use it together with the hot water bag, so as to avoid the heat of the hot water bag accelerating the aging of the insulation layer and shortening the service life of the electric blanket.
Electric blankets are afraid of getting wet. If the electric blanket is dirty, it can be cleaned with a dry rag or a soft brush. Never rub it by hand or put it in the washing machine. When using electric blankets for children, the elderly and patients, it is necessary to prevent bed wetting or sweat from wetting the electric blankets and causing short circuit of the electric hot lines. If the electric blanket is accidentally wetted or dampened, it should be dried in time and checked for safety before use.
It’s better to buy temperature control products. The price of electric blankets ranges from tens to hundreds of yuan. Chen Gang suggested that you must go to regular channels to buy, and never go to roadside stalls to buy products with low prices and no guarantee of quality; The second is to see whether the manufacturer’s name, address, telephone number, production license mark, product manual, service life and other information are complete before purchasing. In addition, Chen Gang introduced that now many electric blankets can automatically control the temperature, cut off power and keep warm when heated to a certain temperature. Some products can also control the temperature locally, for example, the temperature of the feet can be set slightly higher. Such products are relatively safer and more comfortable. If it is not temperature controlled, it should be preheated 30 minutes before going to bed, and the power supply should be disconnected when going to sleep. The continuous heating should not exceed 2 hours at most.
