Recently, researchers from the school of public health, University of Queensland, Australia found that standing more and sitting less can improve blood sugar, blood lipid and cholesterol levels; In addition, walking instead of sitting still is also beneficial to waist circumference and height body mass index.
The research team selected 782 participants aged between 36 and 80 from the “Australian Diabetes, obesity and lifestyle study” and asked them to wear activity monitors. This instrument can accurately determine the time each participant spends sleeping, sitting (or lying down), standing and walking (including walking and running). After providing blood samples, blood pressure measurements, height, weight, waist circumference and other data to the researchers, participants wore activity monitors for 7 consecutive days.
The results showed that there was a significant correlation between the time of standing every day and the lower blood glucose and lipid levels. Standing for an additional 2 hours a day can reduce the average fasting blood glucose level by about 2% and triglyceride content by 11%. Walking for two hours a day and sitting in meditation for me can reduce the average height and body mass index by about 11% and reduce the waist circumference by 7.5 cm. In addition, every 2 hours of walking, the average blood glucose level will drop by about 11%, the triglyceride content will drop by about 14%, and the content of high-density lipoprotein will increase by 0.10 mmol / L.
This preliminary research result published in the European Journal of Cardiology shows that increasing the time of standing and walking is beneficial to the heart and metabolic function, and can also reduce weight and waist circumference, which has significantly promoted the improvement of public health.
