Sadness is bad for health, but crying when sad is good for health.
Psychological experts have found that the tears shed when people are sad contain a high content of protein. This protein is a harmful substance produced by mental depression, which accumulates in the body and is harmful to human health. Experts from the psychiatry Laboratory of St. Paul Remsey medical center in the United States found that tears can alleviate people’s sense of depression.
Through chemical analysis of tears, they found that tears contain two important chemicals, namely enkephalin complex and prolactin. It only exists in the tears that flow out under the influence of emotion, but it cannot be detected in the tears that flow out under the stimulation of onions and the like. Therefore, they believe that tears can remove the chemicals that cause depression stored in the body, thus reducing psychological pressure.
Experts believe that the reason why women’s life expectancy is generally longer than men’s is that, in addition to their advantages in occupation, physiology, hormones and psychology, being good at crying is also an important factor. Usually, after people cry, their emotional intensity will be reduced by 40%. On the contrary, if they can’t use tears to eliminate emotional stress, their physical health will be affected. Therefore, experts believe that holding back tears is tantamount to “suicide”.
However, you should not cry for more than 15 minutes. After the depressed mood is vented and relieved, you can’t cry anymore, otherwise it will be harmful to your body. Because people’s gastrointestinal function is extremely sensitive to emotions, if they are sad or cry for too long, the movement of the stomach will slow down, the secretion of gastric juice will decrease, and the acidity will drop, which will affect appetite and even cause various stomach diseases.
