In life, many people will sleep in late and stay in bed whenever they have a chance. However, a study reported by the daily mail of the UK reminds us that if you sleep more than 9 hours every night, the risk of cancer will be significantly increased, especially for overweight and snoring people.
The new study, completed by Dr. Zhang Xuehong of Harvard Medical School and her colleagues, involved more than 76000 women and about 30000 men, and evaluated their weight, total sleep time within 24 hours, snoring and other conditions. During the study period, a total of 1973 people developed colorectal cancer. The results showed that compared with those who slept about 7 hours every night, those who slept more than 9 hours had a 1.4-2-fold increased risk of colon cancer. At the same time of sleeping too long, if you are overweight or snore frequently, you have a higher risk of cancer.
Researchers pointed out that snoring may cause obstructive sleep apnea, reduce sleep quality, cause intermittent hypoxia, and ultimately increase the risk of tumor growth. In addition, the lack of sleep quality forces people to need more sleep time to supplement, resulting in a vicious cycle. Therefore, the researchers suggest that ensuring quality sleep is vital to health. For adults, the best sleep time is 7-8 hours every night, and sleeping more and less is harmful to health. People with sleep problems had better go to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment to solve the problem as soon as possible.
