“Some people think that ‘snoring like thunder’ is a sign of sleeping soundly. In fact, it is not. People who snore regularly have health hazards in their bodies. Moreover, heavy snoring not only affects the rest of their families and their sleep quality, but also induces high blood pressure, diabetes, and even sudden death due to suffocation. Because it is difficult for them to detect, snoring has become a potential ‘killer’ in sleep.”
More than half of the people snore
After falling asleep, the nerves and muscles of the whole body, including the respiratory tract, relax. The respiratory tract becomes narrow due to muscle relaxation. Snoring is the sound of air flow passing through the narrow airway. Because snoring occurs in sleep, many people do not know whether they snore or not, and do not know much about the harm of snoring.
In this regard, Li Jingbo provided a set of survey data: among 6826 people over 30 years old, 57.1% snored to varying degrees, including 33.4% who snored mildly and 23.7% who snored moderately or severely.
That is to say, there are five or six snorers in 10 people, and at least two moderate and severe snorers are harmful to health.
Snoring is a serious health hazard
Physiological snoring sound is delicate, peaceful, slow and even, which often occurs after physical fatigue, excessive drinking and smoking.
The snoring sound of patients with sleep apnea syndrome can reach 80 dB, and the snoring sound is intermittent. Sleep apnea often occurs, and hypoxia is caused by insufficient ventilation. When the oxygen level in the body drops, the carotid artery sends instructions to the nervous system to raise blood pressure to deliver more oxygen. Long term repeated heavy snoring makes the oxygen level drop repeatedly, and the nervous system continuously receives the signal of raising blood pressure, thus inducing hypertension.
In addition, snoring is also the chief culprit of diabetes, myocardial infarction and other diseases. Serious snoring may even block the airway and lead to sudden death. According to statistics, male snorers are three times more likely than female snorers. Fat people are more likely to snore, and snoring is also inherited. Often the whole family “shouts in the middle of the night”.
Weight loss, side lying, Anti Snoring
People who drink alcohol, smoke, take sleeping pills for a long time, and who are fat and have a short neck are prone to snoring. Therefore, quitting alcohol, losing weight, and banning sleeping pills are good ways to prevent snoring.
Lying on one’s side is another effective way to prevent snoring.
Li Jingbo suggested that sewing a golf ball on the back of pajamas could reduce lying down. For patients with suffocating snoring, their families must be vigilant. Once they find that they have sleep apnea, they should timely wake them up to avoid accidents due to suffocation.
Do sleep breathing monitoring
Do you want to know if you snore or how you snore? Li Jingbo suggested that before going to bed at night, put a recording device (MP3, etc.) at the head of the bed to record the sleep situation. For those who snore seriously, it is recommended to do sleep breathing monitoring to determine whether and how to treat them. If obstructive sleep apnea syndrome is diagnosed, it should be treated in time to avoid inducing other diseases or accidents.
The effect of drug treatment is not ideal, and different surgical methods can be adopted for different obstruction sites and anatomical structures; Positive airway pressure ventilation with less side effects and good therapeutic effect is the first choice.
