causes: allergy or mite bite
According to dermatologists, there are roughly two causes of “mat dermatitis”: one is allergy caused by mat materials. Generally speaking, mats made of rope, reed and grass are easy to cause allergy, while those made of bamboo and rattan are less allergic. The second is the skin inflammation caused by the bite of mites. Bite marks or bruises the size of a needle can often be seen from the rash.
Of course, there is no absolute limit between the two etiologies, because mites can also release a certain amount of toxin in the process of biting people, which is easy to make people allergic.
prevention: correctly select and clean mats
To prevent “mat dermatitis”, we must choose a good mat. Do not choose straw mats for summer mats, because straw mats are prone to mites, and straw mats themselves are often allergens. All people with a history of skin allergy must choose bamboo and rattan mats made of fine weaving. When starting to use mats, they can take some anti allergy drugs appropriately. Before using the mats, you can put the mats on white paper and shake them. If you find many small white insects with the size of needle tips, they are dust mites.
It is difficult to clean the mats with Dermatophagoides farinae hiding with clean water or general detergent. Experts said that there are two ways to effectively kill dust mites in the mats at home. One is to spray and seal with insecticide that is non-toxic to human body for a period of time before cleaning. Second, scald the mats with boiling water. As long as the mat used for the first time is scalded in boiling water for about 10 minutes and then dried, it can remove mites.
In summer, the human body is easy to sweat, and dandruff and dust are easy to enter the gap of the mat. In addition, the humid environment may breed mites. Therefore, in the process of use, the mat should also be washed and dried with hot water frequently, so as to “wash it once a day and dry it once a week”.
treatment: distinguish allergy from “mite damage”
Once “mat dermatitis” occurs, it is not allowed to scratch at will. First, it is possible to distinguish whether it is allergy or mite damage according to the “rash” characteristics of the skin.
If you are allergic, as long as you get rid of the allergen (such as changing the mat or not using the mat), take some anti allergic drugs and vitamin C at the same time, and your symptoms will improve within three days; If it is “mite damage”, it can be treated with some topical drugs while killing mites. If the infection is serious, it can be cured in about a week with antibiotics. Of course, medication must be conducted under the guidance of doctors.
