According to overseas media reports, clinical medical researchers in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands have shown through large-scale population surveys that “pouch” is a manifestation of human fat metabolism disorder. Most of the people with significant “pouch” have familial hyperlipidemia, and 51% of them have atherosclerosis at the same time.
Due to the different reasons for the formation of pouch, its form is also different:
1. Simple orbicularis oculi hypertrophic pouch
Due to genetic factors, I had lower eyelid pouch when I was young. Its prominent feature is that it is close to the lower eyelid margin, distributed in an arc-shaped continuous manner, and the skin is not loose, which is mostly seen in young people aged 20-32 years.
2. Simple skin laxity
This condition is characterized by loose skin of the lower eyelid and lateral canthus, but no orbital septum, so there is no prominent orbital septum fat and small wrinkles around the eyes, which are mostly seen in middle-aged people aged 33-45 years.
3. Mild to moderate swelling of lower eyelid
It is mainly the congenital overdevelopment of orbital septal fat, which is mostly seen in young and middle-aged people aged 23-36 years.
4. Moderate to severe swelling of lower eyelid
At the same time, it is accompanied by skin relaxation of the lower eyelid, mainly skin, orbicularis oculi muscle and orbital septum relaxation, resulting in orbital septum fat prolapse due to gravity. In serious cases, lateral canthus ligament relaxation, tarsal valgus, palpebral ball separation, and tears often occur, which are mostly seen in middle-aged and elderly people aged 45-68 years.
“Pouch” is a semicircular pouch formed by a large amount of fat accumulated in the subcutaneous tissue of the lower eyelid over time, which is called macular (fat) tumor in medicine. Research shows that “pouch” not only hinders appearance, but also indicates that some people have hyperlipidemia and atherosclerosis. Therefore, it cannot be removed only by cosmetic surgery.
Experts pointed out that people with “bags under the eyes” should go to the hospital for examination, including listening to the heart, measuring blood pressure, checking the electrocardiogram, testing blood lipids, etc. if there are hyperlipidemia, arteriosclerosis, hypertension, coronary heart disease, etc., they should take drugs under the guidance of doctors to control their condition. Pay attention to adjusting the diet at ordinary times, eat more light foods such as vegetables and fruits, and eat less food containing animal fat to reduce the content of cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein. We should take regular physical exercise to keep our body and mind happy.
