When choosing hand soap or body soap, many people will unconsciously choose “antibacterial” or “antibacterial” products. The reporter found that there is no scientific evidence to prove that antibacterial soap is more effective than ordinary soap, but it will cause many hazards such as bacterial resistance.
Can remove 99% of bacteria? On the market, antibacterial soap or body wash is mainly made up of big brands such as Shufujia and dewdrop. Some antibacterial products claim that “the killing rate of natural bacteria on the hand is as high as 99%”.
Wang Xin, director of the dermatology department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Tsinghua University, introduced that it is not necessary to use antibacterial soap, and ordinary products can achieve this effect. Because the bacteria staying on the body surface are not directly attached to the skin cells, but attached to the oil on the surface of the human body, ordinary soap can dissolve the oil well and remove most of the bacteria.
Can it resist bacteria and bacteria? The antibacterial soap also claims to have an antibacterial and bacteriostatic effect. Professor Sun Jianfang of the Institute of Dermatology of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences said that there was no basis for this. Professor Sun explained that because antibiotics need a certain concentration and a certain action time to play their role, it is difficult to ensure the concentration of antibiotics when antibacterial soap or body wash is used with clean water, especially when washing hands for three or two minutes.
The effectiveness of antibacterial soap was questioned by the US Food and drug administration as early as 2005. At that time, the expert group made a judgment based on the result of 11 to 1: there was no sufficient evidence to prove that antibacterial soap was more effective than ordinary soap.
Can antibiotics be used casually? Some antibacterial soaps contain “triclosan” and “triclosan carban” in the composition table. The reporter searched the literature and found that many authoritative journals included in SCI suggested that such substances might affect the levels of testosterone, estrogen and thyroid hormone, and there was a risk of cancer.
Sun Jianfang introduced that triclosan and Trichlorocarban are broad-spectrum antibacterial agents. Clinically, they are very cautious about the external use of antibiotics, because misuse of antibiotics can easily lead to bacterial resistance. A study by the University of Michigan has shown that people who regularly use soap with additional bactericidal ingredients are less effective in preventing infectious diseases and reducing bacterial levels than ordinary soap.
Experts suggest that the key to hand washing is to carefully wash hands according to the correct steps, and do not rely too much on antibacterial soap.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has also announced a proposal to impose stricter supervision on manufacturers of antibacterial soap and shower gel, because long-term use of antibacterial soap may harm human health.
