British journal BMC Medicine published a new study in Germany, which found that five healthy lifestyle habits can greatly reduce the risk of colon cancer.
Researchers from the German Institute of human nutrition conducted a 12-year random interview on more than 347000 European participants. During the study period, nearly 3760 people were diagnosed with colon cancer. In this study, the researchers investigated the impact of five lifestyles on the risk of colon cancer, including healthy weight, a small amount of abdominal fat, regular exercise, non-smoking, alcohol restriction and balanced diet, through quantitative analysis of data.
The results show that participants who maintain healthy weight, a small amount of abdominal fat, exercise regularly, do not smoke, limit alcohol consumption and eat a balanced diet have a significantly lower risk of colon cancer.
Among them, those who maintain two healthy habits will reduce the risk of colon cancer by 13%, while those who maintain five healthy habits will reduce the risk of colon cancer by 37%.
Dr. krasmira, the leader of the study, said that it was also found in the study that men benefited more from healthy habits than women. Keeping five healthy habits in the high-risk population of colon cancer can reduce the incidence of colon cancer by 22% and 11% in men and women respectively.
Although the new study failed to prove a causal relationship between healthy living habits and the prevention of colon cancer, it did further confirm the impact of weight and diet factors on the risk of colon cancer. The balanced diet mainly includes: fruits and vegetables, fish, yogurt, nuts and plant seeds, food rich in cellulose, a small amount of red meat and processed meat.
